The exhibition five billy boy B Boy b b b b b shows paintings by Cas van Deurssen. He tells about his exhibition:

"The way we follow the same routines every day, experiencing a similar event differently each time, fascinates me. How on a familiar route to work, we can still make new discoveries, like a strikingly blue façade with flower patterns that we have likely seen countless times but never noticed. In a similar way these daily actions become habits and acquire their own meaning in my visual language. 

Often, I find that my creative process moves from backward to inside out. Works are pieced together in a fragmented manner from personal experiences and loose ideas. This process creates a dialogue where influences from architecture, a stroll in the hardware store, PVC pipes, and found sex-doll postcards are pulled out of their original context and align with each other to form a new non-linear storyline. I frequently encounter elements from my work in my surroundings, which leads to an interaction where I can observe these elements outside the context of my work. This influences the further development of my work and opens the door to new inspirations.

Sometimes, halfway through a process, I wonder how my previous works came into being and what determines their character. The context and design of a work are never predetermined,  I like to embrace the unknown in them. Herein it is the ongoing quest for unfamiliar territory that engages me.

I become integrated when a work has a functional-looking appearance. The association that there is a mechanism behind the work gives me the freedom to approach it from an installation or sculptural perspective.

Influences from my background as a welder/construction worker often come into play here. In these fields, everything revolves around precision, perfect alignments, and seamless connections. These characteristics are visible in the way my works come together. However, I frequently feel the urge to go against these conventions. It is liberating to create without the need for rules or function."
