Alexander Blu - Paintings
About this activity.
Alexander Blu is a young painter with an international background; he has lived and worked in Belgium, Greece, Austria, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Alexander Blu (Sparta 2000) greatest interest lies in painting people and their stories. He is a 'real' storyteller and specializes in the use of light and color. He mainly works with oil paint on canvas.
His paintings are often figurative and strongly inspired by archetypes from the past.
He deals directly with problems and questions of our time, questions that we only deal with indirectly.
Blu does not make it easy for the viewer: the viewer often sees work that asks complicated questions from a comfortable position. Blu invites the viewer to look at these questions from an uncomfortable position.
As the storm of progress rages above us and the march of modern life overtakes us every day,
Blu digs deeper into the past.
“Art is what we do, and that doing renews and redefines itself.”
The result is an oeuvre that, in the words of critic André Florin Wyss;
'offers an equilibrium between artistic technique and thoughtful imagery'. This is an art in
which oppositions are balanced: the reflective with the dynamic, the colorful with
the gloomy, and the abstract with the familiar.'
