About this activity.

Pictura opens the cultural seaon on Sunday 1 September with a farewell exhibition of Philip Elchers. For four decades de Groningen inhabitant Flip Ekkers demonstrated that the old term the art of (book) printing is still actual. Under the flag of publishing house Philip Elchers he made, together with a big diversity of artists eye-catching books, that are an honour to the artist himself as a jewel for the book business. To quote Han Steenbruggen, managing director of Museum Belvedère in Heerenveen: "With his many publications he gave writers, poets, photographers a special platform. They contributed, he connected the dots and he directed it to  a organic whole.

Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen waves Flip Ekkers goodbye with an exhibition, with not only book editions, but also the work of thirteen artists Elchers intensively collaborated with. 

Pictura chose from the stable of Philip Elchers ten artists for an exhibition in the upper room:

Dianne Bakker, Drewes de Wit, Hans Boer, Jaap de Ruig, Janet Meester, Jet van Oosten, (the late) Martin Tissing, Miriam Knibbeler, Rommert Boonstra, Ruud de Rode en Siemen Dijkstra.

Filip Ekkers added three artists for the Van Houten Room: Christof Beukema, Willem Kolvoort en Anke Slooff.

Pictura.

Het Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen werd opgericht in 1832 met als doel: 'de beeldende kunst en de nijverheidskunst in de ruimste zin van het woord aan te moedigen en te bevorderen.' Pictura is gehuisvest in een mooi, monumentaal pand aan het Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In de sfeervolle zalen exposeren professionele kunstenaars van uiteenlopende richtingen en disciplines, maar de hoofdmoot is figuratief.
