Backward forward
About this activity.
With the title Backward forward, Nico Gerbenzon refers to the dynamics in which his
creative process has been taking place in recent years: “Developments in which older themes reappear in the new images.”
His works in the overview in the upper room are interwoven in many ways.
Elements of photos are freely translated into physical-spatial constructions. These constructions are partly wooden volumes with a raw surface finish and in turn relate to the wall objects that Gerbenzon himself calls 'sculpted paintings'.
This interweaving shows that the process is not so much linear, but that it unfolds in all directions. Due to all the cross-connections, the arrangement, the composition of the works, can be experienced as a web. However, it is not the case that the sculptures and the photos need each other under any circumstances, they can certainly also be considered independently. An artist of Gerbenzon's caliber does not rest until every work exudes class.
Pictura.
Het Kunstlievend Genootschap Pictura in Groningen werd opgericht in 1832 met als doel: 'de beeldende kunst en de nijverheidskunst in de ruimste zin van het woord aan te moedigen en te bevorderen.' Pictura is gehuisvest in een mooi, monumentaal pand aan het Martinikerkhof in Groningen. In de sfeervolle zalen exposeren professionele kunstenaars van uiteenlopende richtingen en disciplines, maar de hoofdmoot is figuratief.
