About this activity.

A journey into Lilliput

Franz Burkhardt works as a sculptor and draftsman, and tries to combine both media in his works.
The intricately constructed components of facades and spaces also serve as a presentation area for his drawings, which are humorous and satirical, resulting from a close observation of the everyday environment. Burkhardt’s carefully crafted drawings are devoted to still lifes, nudes, domestic scenes, animals and landscapes. He finds inspiration in found photographic source material and text fragments. As for his sculptural work, Franz Burkhardt’s interest is sparked by urban motifs: aged street furniture, the patina of decaying walls, advertisements and graffiti. With a variety of materials he creates seemingly realistic facades, passable streetscapes and interiors. In each case, the result is an astonishingly credible atmosphere, a stage in itself for a programmatic ‘maybe’ that lies behind each of Franz Burkhardt’s works.

Franz Burkhardt (1966, Wolfenbüttel, DE) lives and works in Montzen (BE).
