The 80th birthday of artist Drewes de Wit is being celebrated with a special Atelier Collection exhibition at Kunstpunt. Drewes has been an artist for 50 years and remains very active. In this exhibition, you can admire many new paintings alongside older works.

Drewes de Wit experiments with lacquer and oil paint by painting, scraping, and sanding. Chance plays a significant role in his work. This sometimes results in images reminiscent of landscapes, flowers, or faces, but which also remain what they are—exciting material experiments.

The Groningen artist began working in the 1970s, during the era of fundamental art, where the process and research were more important than the final result. For Drewes, the process is important, but so is the appearance of the final result. His paintings have a polished surface and sometimes appear blurry, creating a subtle beauty. However, his work is not intended to be poetic or mystical. It is more akin to scientific research, as if you are looking through a microscope at tiny creatures in a drop of pond water. Sometimes the works seem to feature signs of a forgotten script. De Wit's research is also an exciting journey for the viewer, searching for fascinating details.

About Drewes de Wit
Drewes de Wit (Groningen, 1944) lives and works in Groningen. Over the past twenty years, he has exhibited in numerous places across the country, including frequently at galerie with tsjalling:. De Wit's work is included in collections of the Rijksmuseum, Groninger Museum, and Fries Museum. His work can also be found in the Kunstuitleen collection of Kunstpunt.
